Her Story

Abby Cruz is a national journalist and speaker rooted in truth, storytelling, and the power of staying grounded.

Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Abby never imagined she’d one day be reporting from the nation’s capital, not because she doubted her talent, but because God hadn't fully revealed His plan to her. She moved in blind faith.

After moving to D.C. in her early twenties with no job and no connections, Abby did what she’s always done: figured it out and had faith.

Since then, her work has taken her from local neighborhoods to national headlines. She started as a news desk assistant at ABC News, worked her way into a midterm election embed position, and later became a full-time presidential campaign embed. Most recently, she’s served as a race and culture reporter, telling the stories that often go overlooked and underreported.

Her reporting has been featured on national broadcasts, in a Hulu political docuseries, and on TED’s main stage, where she spoke candidly about breaking into journalism from a world where that dream wasn’t exactly typical.

Whether she’s interviewing cultural legends, digging into personal stories in sports, or elevating everyday people in overlooked communities, Abby brings her full self; voice, roots, and all to every story she tells.

She believes you don’t have to change who you are to be respected in the room. In fact, it’s exactly who you are that makes the room better.

Today, Abby continues to use journalism not just to report facts (And even fact-check politicians), but to platform people, elevate culture, and inspire the next generation of storytellers.

She is currently between in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, and is available for speaking engagements, moderating, media workshops, and more.

Abby is fluent in both Spanish and English.
